Urban Rifle Supply is happy to offer smoothbore services for rimfires. We will turn your rifled rimfire barrel into a smoothbore for shooting .22 rimfire shotshells. We call these our Barn Barrels. In a proprietary three stage process we remove most of the rifling ahead of the chamber. We then overbore the remainder of the barrel. We do not modify your chamber, extractor cuts or headspace. This service is available on most any rimfire barrels up to 24" including magnums. Performance is approximately equal to factory rimfire smoothbore guns. Smoothbores double or triple the effective range of rimfire shotshells. Most guns will group 3-4" at 10 feet, 6" at 21 feet, 9-10" at 24 feet and 12-14" at 30 feet. Patterns are generally round at these distances. Please visit our website www.urbanriflesupply.com for more details on performance, shell types and action types. These barrels will no longer shoot well with solid bullets, it is safe, but they will keyhole at any but the shortest ranges.
Rebore Service $90
Just send your barrel to us in a container that can be shipped back to you, preferably a shipping tube, include $90 and we will modify it and return it to you. We are shooting for a one week turn around. PLEASE ship only the barrel NO RECIEVERS. Call 208-994-2006 with any questions.

Shells and action types .22 rimfire shotshells are generally available in two types. The older traditional crimped style and the CCI plastic cup style. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. They have each been made with different pellet counts and sizes. Anywhere from 100 to 165 pellets, in size 11 and 12 have been available over the years. For semi auto guns the newer CCI type seem to function better. The longer case of the crimped type often lead to feeding and extraction problems.
Please be sure your gun feeds and functions with shotshells before modifications to the barrel. Our service does not include any work to improve feeding or extracting these shells. Most guns, will shoot and function with either, but Note: in particular Ruger 10/22's generally function better with the standard case size of the CCI plastic tipped shells.
Some notes on rimfire shotshells...
These are not usefull for hunting game. They are best used for pest control. They are very effective for use inside barns and other building where penetration is a prime concern. In properly bored guns they can be used at ranges up to 30-35 feet maximum for dispatching birds, rats and mice. Like most rimfire ammo, you should test all types available as performance will vary. Smoothbores effectively double or triple the range of .22 shot, from about 10 feet to about 30 feet.
